Local Area

On the outskirts of Grimsby, Great Coates has retained its identity as a welcome, rural retreat, ideally situated for the amenities a large town can offer, yet remaining a true village in character.

This is quite a small community which, at the time of the 2001 census, had only 1,101 residents. This number has risen in more recent times with new and highly-sought after, homes being developed. It is a village that takes pride in itself and this is reflected in the fact that half of it is classed a conservation area.

It is minutes away from the Humber Bank factories and also the A180, which links into Britain’s motorway network. It even has its own railway station, which links to the East Coast mainline. There is a village primary school and falls within the catchment area of the high-rated secondary school in nearby Healing.

Little surprise then, that official statistics show the village to be one of the least deprived anywhere in terms of education provision. Income is higher than average and crime is low.



By car: The village is a few minutes’ drive from central Grimsby and is within fast and easy reach of the A180 which connects to the motorway network. Humber Bank factories are reached within a few minutes.

Rail: A train service runs about every two hours between Great Coates and Grimsby.

Bus: There are regular daily services between Immingham and Grimsby about every 20 minutes – one hour in evenings.

Air: The village is within easy reach – about 30 minutes by car – of Humberside Airport.
